In the last 9 days I’ve lost a dear friend of mine, David Bowie, and today Alan Rickman. This latest blow makes it hurt all over again. I tried to explain to Leia this morning that Auntie puts extra makeup on when she feels sad. She reached out and gave me a hug. Luke said “Auntie you’re beautiful,” which also made me smile. I guess were not doing to bad of a job.
While I watched the original Die Hard back in the day (I’ve not really watched it since, something I will do better at changing), the first film where I fell in love with Alan Rickman was Blow Dry.
It was a British film about the national hair dressing competition. Alan Rickman is a hairdresser who kicks some serious ass. He has this epic foot tattoo that, to this day, makes me want one of my own. Maybe not scissors, but something on the bottom of my foot would do just fine.
Then there was Dogma and Alan played a Ken Doll, I mean the Voice of God. Who doesn’t love a Jay and Silent Bob flick anyways, but when you add Alan it was a sure win.
I’ve been saying for a few weeks now that I’ve been wanting to re-read the Harry Potter books. I own a set of hardbacks and paperbacks but like most of my possessions they packed away for the time being. So I’ve been asking friends for copies to read and I keep hitting a brick wall. Then two days ago I was at the thrift store, and found copies of the first three books, so I bought them. I’ve been carrying around the first book for the last couple of days.
The thing is, I know that no matter how much time goes by, if I read Harry Potter, I will forever think of Alan as Snape. There is no changing that. Forever immortalized on film and in my mind. May peace be with you. Always.
