It came as no surprise ALIGHT was better then ALIVE by miles. The first book in the Generation’s series was spent learning all the characters names. And a plot is seen through darkness. It was hard for me to get through in all honesty. Check out my review by clicking on the link above.

In ALIGHT, we know the main group of people by now. We know their quirks, we know how they think, they feel. We know their strengths and weaknesses. This combined with a much more fast-paced plot, made for a book two that broke my book two rule. For those of you just joining me, my book two rule is that they usually suck. I find it’s rare when they’re able to hold up to the first one or, like this case, surpass it.

Now that our group has made it to Omeyocan, they are faced with new trials and enemies. The plot moves much quicker, and there’s always something going on. The grownups rear their leathery heads, mold has poisoned the food, and a new enemy claimed Omeyocan first.

I did appreciate how the ending of this book, laid out clearly what to expect in book three. I will probably break and read a couple of other things I’ve been itching at for a while, but eventually, I’ll get back to Em and Bishop and find out how their story ends.

M. Savage—or Em, as she is called—has made a bewildering and ominous discovery. She and the other young people she was chosen to lead awoke in strange coffins with no memory of their names or their pasts. They faced an empty, unknown place of twisting tunnels and human bones. And when a new enemy creeps from the jungle shadows, Em and her young refugees learn there’s nowhere left to run. They face a simple choice: fight or die.

In the midst of this desperate struggle, their unity is compromised from within—and a dangerous zealot devoted to a bloodthirsty god moves to usurp Em’s command, threatening to lead them all down a path to violent doom.
